Button problems we fix

• A power or side button that is stuck, sunken, has no click, or only works if pressed hard.
• Volume buttons that don't respond, or change the volume on their own.
• A mute switch that won't stay in place.
• A home button that has stopped clicking on older iPhones.
• A fingerprint sensor that no longer recognises your finger, on phones where it is part of the button.

What causes button faults?

Most button problems come from a worn or damaged flex cable behind the button, after years of pressing or a drop. Dirt and sticky drinks can also jam buttons. Sometimes a clean is enough; otherwise we replace the button flex cable.

Home buttons and Touch ID

On iPhones with a home button, Touch ID is paired to the phone's logic board. A replacement home button restores the click, but Touch ID will not work with a replacement part. We explain this before you book so there are no surprises.

A temporary workaround

While you wait for a repair, iPhones have AssistiveTouch (Settings > Accessibility > Touch) and Android phones have an accessibility menu. Both put an on-screen button in place of physical ones.
