Signs your phone screen needs replacing

A cracked screen is the obvious one, but it is not the only reason to replace a display. Bring your phone in, or book a call-out, if you notice any of these:

• Cracks or chips in the glass, even small ones near the edge, which tend to spread.
• Coloured lines, green or pink tints, or a flickering picture.
• Black spots or "ink" that grows across the display.
• Parts of the touchscreen that don't respond, or "ghost touches" that open apps on their own.
• A black screen while the phone still rings, vibrates or plays sound.

Cracked glass is more than a looks problem. Small cracks let in dust and moisture, and sharp edges can cut fingers. Fixing it early usually means a simpler repair.

Screen options: LCD, OLED and original parts

Many iPhone and Samsung models were made with OLED screens. OLED gives deeper blacks and sharper contrast, and it uses less battery on dark content. Older and budget models use LCD screens.

For some models there is more than one replacement option, and each one has its own price in the table below:

• LCD replacement is the lowest-cost option for phones that came with OLED. It works well for calls, messages and apps, but it is usually a little thicker, less bright and uses more battery than the original.
• OLED replacement is closer to how the phone looked and felt out of the box, at a higher price.
• Original or service parts are listed only where we can supply them, and the price list says so.

Foldable and two-screen phones

Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip phones, and the Pixel Fold, have a main inner screen and an outer cover screen. They are priced separately, as "Main" and "Outer" (or "Top") in the price list, because they are different parts and different repairs.

How long does a screen replacement take?

Most phone screen replacements take 30 minutes to 2 hours once your phone is with us and the part is in stock. Some tablets, foldables and less common models take 1 to 3 business days. The expected time for your model is shown next to its price.

What happens during the repair

• We check the phone first, so we know the fault really is the screen and not something else, like a loose connector or water damage.
• We confirm the price and the part with you before we start.
• After fitting the new screen we test touch across the whole display, brightness, the front camera, Face ID or the fingerprint sensor where fitted, the earpiece and the proximity sensor.

Screen replacements don't normally affect your photos, messages or apps. Back up first if the phone still turns on, because no repairer can promise that for every phone.
